Become a Volunteer!
We are seeking interested adults to lead tours and interpret local history. Volunteering for the Historical Society is enriching and fun. If you have been thinking about getting involved, now is a good time. Training provided.
We have openings in four docent programs:
- Shadelands Ranch Museum Docents ~ Docents at the Shadelands Ranch Museum lead visitors on tours of this historic house built in 1903 by Hiram Penniman, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
- Living History Program Docents ~ This program immerses local third graders in a hands-on experience of life in our valley 100 years ago.
- Walking History Tour Docents ~ Guide local third graders on historical tours of downtown Walnut Creek. Tours for the general public will be added in 2010.
- Docents at the new downtown Walnut Creek Library ~ When the new downtown Walnut Creek Library opens in the summer of 2010, the Historical Society is going to be there! We will be assisting the public in answering their questions about local history.
No prior experience or training is required for any of these positions. Time commitments are flexible. Applications are available by emailing wcshadelands@sbcglobal.net or by calling the Society at (925)935-7871.
