Thanks to Brad Rovanpera and his book, Walnut Creek: An Illustrated History, and to Ann Shelton and other members of the Walnut Creek Historical Society. To purchase a copy of Brad’s book, visit the Walnut Creek Historical Society, the Friends of the Walnut Creek Library bookstore, or Barnes & Noble in downtown Walnut Creek.

Heritage Sites

  • DOWNTOWN
  • ACROSS WALNUT CREEK

From Borges Ranch to the original Central Fire Station on Bonanza Street, Walnut Creek has numerous landmarks that reflect the community’s agricultural, commercial, and cultural heritage.

Enjoy the virtual tour on this webpage, then visit the sites in our downtown and in other parts of the community.

For downtown, you have two ways to experience our heritage sites. The Historical Society offers a 90-minute docent-guided walking tour of downtown historic sites on the second Saturday of most months. Or, using a cellphone, you can take a self-guided downtown Heritage Walk (see below).

Downtown Heritage Walk

The downtown Heritage Walk comprises six self-guided tours, covering 60 heritage sites. Click on the name of a tour to see more information about the specific sites on that tour.

  • The Corners
  • Main Street Early Years
  • Main Street Later Years
